Part 1

6.    Look for generic organic foods at the supermarkets and grocery stores. For example, Wegmans food store has their own brand of organic juices, which are 2-3 dollars cheaper per bottle than big organic brands.

7.    Don’t overeat. Foreigners are usually shocked by the portions Americans eat. When I came here I couldn’t believe the sizes of portions at restaurants and the amount of food people throw away. Read more »

My New Favorite Trick to Score the Best Deals

If you read my blog you know that I am an Internet junkie, who does everything, including her shopping, online. Quick and Cheap Gift Ideas for Procrastinators- Part 1 (I hope my husband reads this)

If you are a procrastinator and think about gifts a few hours before the holiday, this post on quick and cheap gift ideas should be very useful for you.

I have to admit – I am one of these nerds, who thinks of gifts 6 months before the actual holiday and prepares them for at least 3 months prior. My husband is the complete opposite. He usually plans to go to the store the day before the holiday (if he doesn’t forget about it that is) and due to the “irony of fate” something will always happen on his shopping day, so he will end up not going at all. The most effective way to save money on textbooks, according to my ex-classmates, was not buying them at all. studentAmazingly, they somehow passed the classes and got more than D’s for them. Since I have always been a nerd, I didn’t want to do that. I didn’t want to pay several hundred bucks for books either, so I found other ways to save. Read more »

MJRSales or Where to Buy Dirt Cheap Victoria’s Secret Stuff

I have to admit that I have a shopping addiction. I love clothing and because there is only this much I can afford, I am constantly looking for deals and coupons. MJRSales has been my greatest find yet.

The store sells customer returns and overstock items, mostly from Victoria’s Secret catalog (Moda International, London Jean, Colin Steward). Occasionally they have Lane Bryant, Route 66 or Zinc stuff, but the majority is from Victoria’s Secret and, therefore, is for women.

Frugal Tip: How to Make Your Own Cleaning Products

I am always amazed at how many cleaning products are available in American stores. I get dizzy looking at bright and colorful bottles which feature “super”, “magical” and “extra strong” cleaning solutions. I always wonder how people in third-world countries or countries where marketing is not so advanced, survive without all these wonderful products…

When I was growing up we didn’t have any “magical” cleaning solutions and mysteriously our house was always clean. Most of our cleaning products were homemade. They were just as effective, and very easy to make. Of course, they were cheap and, most importantly, safe.

Here is what you need to make your own cleaning products: Read more »
